Minimalistic and snug, this room narrates the rags-to-riches stories of the Thai-Chinese people at their pioneering time. The illustrations shown in the rooms symbolise aspects of their journey to migrate to Thailand.
The Junk boat represents how the Chinese people sailed to Thailand in hopes of earning money to send back home. The Koi fish swimming against the current, are an auspicious symbol and also signifies the strength and willpower to overcome obstacles to succeed. Lastly, the backpack, straw mat and abacus represent how the Chinese migrants travelled with little-to-no possessions when they arrived but managed to continue working and trade with their trusty abacus. Whereas the flying birds signify migrating birds such as eagles which migrate across Asia and Thailand every year. In Chinese culture, the eagle symbolises freedom, foresight along with happiness, power, prestige and greatness.
